Smriti Irani loses, Rajyavardhan Rathore new I&B Minister

Mumbai : There’s change at the top at the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB). Minister Smirti Irani has been moved out of her post and kept solely in charge of the textiles ministry. Replacing her is Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore – her minister of state – who has now been given independent charge of the MIB.

Irani, whose nearly one-year tenure in the I and B Ministry was mired in controversies, was replaced by her deputy Rathore who has been made the Minister of State with Independent Charge, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué.

Also Piyush Goyal has been additional charge of Finance Ministry till the time Arun Jaitley is recuperating from a kidney ailment. Jaitley underwent surgey today and is currently doing well. Goyal is also the Railway Minister of the country. The communiqué said Railways Minister Goyal will “temporarily” handle the Finance and Corporate Affairs ministries till Arun Jaitley recover from his kidney transplant.

S S Ahluwalia has been relieved from the charge of Minister of State in Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry and assigned a new portfolio of Electronics and Information Technology, the communique said. Alphons Kannanthanam has been relieved as Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. He continues as Minister of State for Tourism.
