Sigh of relief for the residents, BMC plans to widen, clean Chamdawadi water drain

Mumbai: A relief for the residents of Jay Bharat housing society (West) as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to widen and clean the Chamdawadi storm water drain Bandra, after several years which gets flooded with at least 4 feet of water every monsoon leads to many difficulties for the residents like lack of safe drinking water, property damage, power outage etc and of course water-borne diseases.

BMC officials confirmed that they will take up widening, desilting and encroachment demolition work, along with the railway authorities, on the nullah that carries water out from the Western suburbs to the Mithi River through Kalanagar junction.

Residents of Jay Bharat society said they have been suffering since the last 50-60 years. Rahul Pai, secretary of the society, said that the BMC keeps planning, but there is no implementation. Desilting should be done frequently during monsoon. Widening of the nullah could definitely help solve the problem.

Corporator Swapna Mhatre. Kherwadi, Navpada and Ram Mandir road in Bandra East said that this will bring relief to Jay Bharat society, as well as societies in Pali Hill and S V Road in the West. It is a huge project and will take time are also expected to get relief under the project.
