Police constable held for taking bribe in Thane

Palghar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a police constable attached to the Vasai police station in Palghar district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant, an official said.

According to the complaint filed by the victim with the ACB on June 11, the accused, constable, Ramchandra Randive (27) demanded Rs 50,000 from him for not taking action against his father, a businessman, who had apparently purchasing some stolen utensils six months back, he said.

Based on the complaint, the police team laid a trap and caught the constable red handed while accepting the instalment of the bribe amount from the complainant near a school in Palghar, police official said.

The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, it added.
