Minister admits smuggling of sand from other states in Maharashtra

Nagpur : The state revenue minister Chandrakantdada Patil on Wednesday admitted in the Maharashtra state Assembly that Sand smuggling from neighbouring states was rampant and efforts are on to tackle the menace.

Responding to a question during Question Hour, raised by Kshitij Thakur and others   the minister said it has come to light that sand from neighbouring Chhindwara (MP) and other adjoining border areas was being smuggled into nearby areas in the State and government was initiating measures to tackle it.

The minister of state for revenue, Dilip Kamble informed the House that sand was available free of cost for the domestic use of individuals who are constructing their Houses for the purpose of living up to a certain
quantity.

Members cutting across party lines demanded that this particularly free availability of sand for domestic sector was not known by many people and hence there was a need for creating awareness about it among common people.
