Elphinstone tragedy: Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman visit site, CM says foot over bridge to be ready by 31st Jan

Mumbai: The Elphinstone site stampede which claimed 23 lives and left 7 others injured, and one month after the tragedy Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visit the site.

The Indian Army has been requested to build a new foot over bridge after the Elphinstone stampede.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the site of Elphinstone stampede. CM said that he wants to thank Railway Minister and Defence Minister. By 31st Jan the bridge will be built.’

The incident had occurred on a railway foot overbridge on 29 September 2017 and it is considered the responsibility of the railway authorities to ensure the safety of its passengers entering and exiting station premises.

The investigation report after the tragedy held no one responsible but it was the result of criminal negligence of the authorities that so many people lost their lives.
