Mumbai: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Mumbai Police has recovered a diary from the prime accused who was recently arrested in connection with the Gauri Lankesh murder case. The dairy mentions the names of the people who were on the hit-list of the killer after the journalist’s death.
Eminent film and theatre personality Girish Karnad and several litterateurs and rationalists were on the hit list, officials said today.
Along with Karnad, author-politician B.B.Lalita Naik, Veerbhadra Chamla Swami and thinker C.S.Dwarakanath are the other names mentioned in the list. These names are written in hindi and all these people were Gauri Lankesh’s supporters.
Some entries, they said, are coded and efforts are on to decipher them.
Meanwhile, the SIT speculation is rife that Parshuram Waghmare (26) could be Lankesh’s assassin as his physical appearance matched that of the man in the CCTV footage recovered from her residence who was suspected of having shot her. Waghmare was said to have links to Hindu right-wing groups.
Waghmare was nabbed from Sindhagi in Bijapur district of Karnataka in connection with the case. He is said to be an extremist working for a Hindu organization.
